This is possibly the first Christmas card from Channel 7 sent to staff with the photograph of the building when it opened in 1959.

Photograph of the first outside broadcast van at Channel 7 using an Austin 245 shuttle and bodywork by Scarborough Bus Company to John’s design with his fit out with the assistance of Bert King ready for the British Commonwealth and Empire Games using 3 cameras from the studio.
The photos below show the construction of the outside broadcast van for Channel Seven. Above is the mock up frame being made up to the inside dimensions of the van by Fred from Channel 7.
We used this as an inside template for the construction of equipment racks and desks by John Quicke and Burt King. The above photo shows the start of that frame with some of the desk type construction finished.corners ready for panels as required.
The photo below shows the van as it was with the original logo on the side.
The photo below shows an early shot from a “test”OB, which was to cover the arrival of a Boing 707 aircraft. This was the first one to arrive at Perth Airport.
Below is a photo at the front of Channel 7’s building with Dorothy Baker, an entertainer from GTV9 in Melbourne. She came to Channel 7 on several occasions and this publicity shot was taken in my first car- a powder blue MGA with the white wall tyres.
